Christmas is almost over. So the Christmas greetings are too late …

I wish you a Happy New Year and all the best for the New Year.

LG Gabi (greetings also from Hermann)

If you want to know what I did in 2024 and what’s coming up in 2025, here …

Unfortunately, Hermann was super busy at work last year and so I had to go off on my own.

stiller „Camping“-Platz

The first of the three major projects was the Panceltic Ultra Race, which took me and my racing bike north through Scotland. After an overnight ride across the Isle of Man, I cycled 2300 kilometres along the Scottish coast, across the islands of Mull and Sky, finishing in Inverness. A very exciting race, which I rode for a good cause and raised around 10,000 euros for Südtirol hilft. Many thanks again to the donors.

A month later, I travelled from Salzburg to Lake Constance on my mountain bike for the Lakes ‘n’ Knödel. I had slightly underestimated the specified distance of 700 kilometres and the terrain was quite challenging in parts, but I reached Constance after four days and three nights in the middle of nowhere with my tent (actually without permission, but nobody caught me). There is also a report and video here

Finally, the Alps Divide (1000km/ 32,000 metres), my first DNF, i.e. my first race in which I didn’t make it to the finish. The conditions (cold snap with temperatures well below freezing, snow and storms) were so extreme that I didn’t want to take any risks and dropped out of the race after 700km, as the penultimate (out of 100 participants, 70 dropped out before me, 10 after the first 100km, another 10 on the next… etc.). The route itself was beautifully laid out on old military roads such as the Via del Sale,… in the Alps between France and Italy. I had always thought I had no problem with dogs, but this time one bit me in the early morning darkness. At midnight, shortly before I was due to get off, I found myself heading towards Col Someiller, pushing my bike up Quote 3000, at minus six degrees and in a snowstorm … pretty hostile and not to be imitated … Read more here

If you like, I was invited by Birgit Kerber to the podcast ‘Women talk cycling’. You can listen to it on Spotify or here: (in German)

This year also promises to be exciting, I hope that the run of bad luck doesn’t continue … you’ll find more information on the home page soon.

At the beginning of February, I will be starting in Rwanda, in East Africa near the equator, in the 1000 km ‘Race around Rwanda’. The excitement is already considerable, unfortunately I have to start without Hermann again. You can follow me during the race via a link on my blog.
Info

If all goes well, Hermann and I will start as a team with our probably heavily loaded MTBs in the Silk Road Mountain Race, 1900 km through Kyrgyzstan, you also cross the Chinese border, the area is supposed to be fantastically beautiful. The organiser is the same as for the Atlas Mountin Race, which we took part in in 2023. Very exciting, high passes – up to 4,000 metres, long lonely valleys and plateaus, the longest section without any supply options is 400 km. I’m looking forward to it, but the respect is also very great. Homepage.

Maybe I’ll do some training kilometres on my MTB while bikepacking in the Taunus (1000km) and discover the area around Frankfurt, my home town. Or … who knows what else is on offer.

kind regards
Gabi
